EACF 40 Days of Prayer 2020
Day 27: Pray for Freedom from the Curse of Death

And so, from the day we heard, we have not ceased to pray for you, asking that you may be filled with the knowledge of his will in all spiritual wisdom and understanding, so as to walk in a manner worthy of the Lord, fully pleasing to him: bearing fruit in every good work and increasing in the knowledge of God; being strengthened with all power, according to his glorious might, for all endurance and patience with joy; giving thanks to the Father, who has qualified you to share in the inheritance of the saints in light. He has delivered us from the domain of darkness and transferred us to the kingdom of his beloved Son, in whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins. - Colossians 1:9-14 ESV

Yesterday news of basketball star Kobe Bryant's tragic death in a helicopter crash shocked fans around the world. Along with Kobe though, his 13YO daughter Gianna and another girl with her parents all perished. May God comfort all those affected.

My daughter was shocked not by that accident, nor by the numbers ticking up regarding the coronavirus, but rather she was shocked when I told her that possibly over 8,000 people have died flu-related deaths this winter. When we think about how fragile we are, and how many people die without Christ in their lives, the sadness compounds.

God, in His goodness, has given us the Gospel. He has delivered us from the domain of darkness and transferred us to the kingdom of his beloved Son, in whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins. We prefer to insulate ourselves from the reality of death until it intrudes on our veneer of invincibility with its power of suddenness. We do not have to ignore it; God has given us power over death. We can celebrate this because Jesus led the way. His goodness saves us. His goodness confirms us. His goodness secures us. We are free. We have the goodness of freedom from the curse of death!

Pray for a greater awareness of this freedom so you can really live freely! Pray for two others to realize how God has lifted the dark blanket of death from us. Write down their names, and encourage them to live free by sending them a note! This is day 27 of praying for good.
