EACF 40 Days of Prayer 2020
Day 21: Pray for a Loving Heart
For this reason I remind you to fan into flame the gift of God, which is in you through the laying on of my hands, for God gave us a spirit not of fear but of power and love and self-control.
- 2 Timothy 1:6-7
There are many words of hate that are thrown about these days. That's not good. But God gives us His love.
In contrast to the idea of a spirit of fear, Paul asserts that God has given us a spirit of power, love, and self-control. Fear focuses on ourselves; we want to protect ourselves, our comfort, and our resources; loving others requires us to extend ourselves, to be vulnerable, and to share resources. Loving others requires us to overcome our fears and to have faith. We are able to do this because God protects us, comforts us, and supplies our needs - we love because He first loved us (1 John 4:19). So if you're challenged to love others, remember how abundantly God loves you! Pray to grow in receiving His love and then sharing love with Him and with others.
Pray for two others to receive this love through Christ so their spirits are encouraged and strengthened. Write down their names, and show them God's love by sending them a note! This is day 21 of praying for good.
Prayers and thoughts for reflection from EACF staff and members.
