EACF 40 Days of Prayer 2020
Day 22: Pray for Self-Control
For this reason I remind you to fan into flame the gift of God, which is in you through the laying on of my hands, for God gave us a spirit not of fear but of power and love and self-control.
- 2 Timothy 1:6-7
Praying for us to experience God's goodness includes not just us receiving things that He has done for us, but this also growing in His goodness. That includes growing in self-control.
Self-control is not something we may think much about. We love our freedoms and we do not like the idea of anything inhibiting us. But self-control is the ability to direct our own thoughts, to filter or not be mastered by our emotions, and to discipline our behaviors. It can be something as simple as getting up in the morning to get to church on time, to thinking about good things about a person instead of thinking critically (read Philippians 4 here), to submitting our discouragement to the Spirit for Him to minister to us. Self-control is underrated. Pray for God's good gift of self-control!
Pray for two others to grow and mature in this area as well. Write down their names, and show them God's love by sending them a note! This is day 22 of praying for good.
Prayers and thoughts for reflection from EACF staff and members.
